Artificial Intelligence (AI) might sound like something from a futuristic sci-fi movie, but the truth is, AI has been part of our lives for years. From simple tasks like filtering spam emails to more advanced uses like personalized Netflix movie recommendations, AI has quietly worked behind the scenes for a long time. But now, more than ever, AI is being used in ways that go far beyond what most of us ever imagined. It’s shaping industries, influencing daily life, and even changing how we think about what’s real and what’s possible.
Here are 5 ways that AI is being used now
1. Creating images and videos that look way too realistic
So, obviously, cats aren't cleaning your kitchen countertops with HopePodz, but this is no standard Photoshop job either. AI has become increasingly skilled at creating images based on instructions you give it. And it doesn't stop at images –– look at this fake (very fake) video of Jude Bellingham with Kim Kardashian that has been circulating on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok.
This was originally just a photo that Kim Kardashian posted on her Instagram because she is a Real Madrid fan, but fans online took it to AI to create that strange video that you just watched. These are called "deepfake images". These "deepfakes" can make someone appear to say or do things they never did, and it’s becoming harder to tell what's real and what’s not. This is changing how we think about truth online.
So next time you see something on the internet that you find hard to believe, definitely consider that it can be fake!
2. Chat GPT and how everyone is using it
ChatGPT is an AI tool that can answer questions, write essays, solve problems, and more, based on what you type into it. It’s like having a very smart assistant that can chat with you about almost anything. You can ask about anything from dinner recipes to sports facts, song suggestions, and even math problems!
Kids in school are using ChatGPT to get help with their homework –– writing essays, finishing assignments, and just about everything else. Teachers are not happy. But it's not just for students! ChatGPT is also great at writing emails, generating creative ideas, and even helping people learn new langauges.
ChatGPT is an absolute gamechanger, and if you haven't tried it before, give it a go yourself here.
3. Creating music and replacing artists
AI doesn't just stop at images and knowledge, it could be giving artists a run for their money too. Within the last year, a song called "Heart on My Sleeve" was written by a ghostwriter who used AI to mimic the voices of Drake and The Weeknd. You guys can give it a listen here.
AI can generate entire songs, beats, and even lyrics based on existing music. This means that with a few prompts, anyone can create a song that sounds like a famous artist without them ever being involved. While some see this as an exciting new tool for creativity, others worry that it could devalue the work of real musicians.
4. Helping doctors diagnose patients
Even doctors are getting tired of doing grunt work, and they can sometimes make mistakes. AI is a tireless assistant that helps doctors analyze X-rays, CT scans, and even patient data. This helps detect diseases like cancer, heart conditions, and even neurological disorders early.
While AI definitely will not be replacing doctors anytime soon, it acts as a second set of eyes to catch little errors that may be missed. The goal is to let AI improve accuracy and save lives while doctors focus on providing the personalized care that only humans can give.
5. Dating Apps
Even dating apps are jumping on the AI trian too. Platforms, like Tinder, now use AI to help you find better matches by analyzing your preferences and learning your "type". There are some apps, like Teaser AI, that even let AI handle the awkward first chats for you.
Furthermore, people are using AI to hep create responses and crafty lines to use on real people. But this raises concerns that users might be talking to bots instead of real people.
And like we learned with deepfakes, AI-generated profiles could trick users into falling for fake identities. So if you're on a dating app, stay cautious!
So how can you use AI in your daily life?
While most of the readers of this blog are not going to be creating crazy images or diagnosing sick patients, there are still very useful things that you can use it for. I've coached my mom on how she can, and now I am going to share with you her favourite tips and tricks.
Research before watch parties
My mom loves to watch major events with groups of people, and she would always ask me for some talking points that she can bring up to sound more knowledgeable to her friends. Safe to say, I have now been replaced. For example, for the Super Bowl, my mom was able to talk to my uncle's football fanatic friends about 49ers George Kittle's elite run blocking, stats about how the Chiefs performed when Taylor Swift was in attendance, and much more!
Dinner Recipes
We also always love trying out new dinner recipes and sometimes it can be very hard to keep finding new ones. ChatGPT is able to compile numerous recipes based on various prompts that we give and can alter them based on our tastes!
Travelling
ChatGPT is also very good at helping plan travel itineraries. Much faster than a blog with a much deeper knowledge, you can ask ChatGPT about best things to do in a certain city, restaurants to try, best ways to travel, etc.
The point is, there is so much that you can do with AI to make your life so much easier, and it is all right at your fingertips. The future is here, and it's time to embrace it.
